Hawijch Elders

Hawijch Elders is an up-and-coming Dutch violinist.

Since September 2022, she is Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where she studies with Augustin Dumay.

Most recently, Hawijch received the First Prize at the Leonid Kogan International Competition for Young Violinists 2021. Other accomplishments include the Second Prize and special prizes at the 2021 Odessa International Violin Competition. She is a laureate of the Dutch Classical Talent season 2021/2022. She was a semi-finalist in the Sibelius and the Wieniawski international violin competitions in 2022.

Previously, she received prizes at the 37th ‘Premio Rodolfo Lipizer’ International Violin Competition 2018, the Netherlands National Violin Competition ‘Oskar Back’ 2018, and she is a laureate of the 3rd Oleh Krysa International Violin Competition 2019. The Kersjes Foundation awarded her the Kersjes Vioolbeurs 2019 at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

Hawijch Elders studies with Ilya Grubert at the Conservatory of Amsterdam since 2016, where she completed her Bachelor and Master of Music with highest distinction. Previously she studied with Benzion Shamir. Hawijch participated in masterclasses with Ivry Gitlis, Shlomo Mintz, Pierre Amoyal.

She performed as soloist the concerti of Beethoven, Sibelius, Britten, Dvořák, Tchaikovsky with, amongst others, The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra. She has worked in chamber music concerts with Valeriy Sokolov, Quirine Viersen and Maria Milstein.

Hawijch plays a violin by Gennaro Gagliano (Napels, ca. 1755) and a bow by Jean Pierre Marie Persoit (19th century), kindly on loan from the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation. The violin is part of the ‘collection Willem G. Vogelaar’ and the bow is part of the ‘collection Tettelaar’.
