In his spectacular production Imperial Ball, Belgian star choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui explores the double nature of dance. Set to the music of Johann Strauss, strict etiquette meets collective longing; masquerade meets freedom; pomp meets fracture. In this premiere of a choreographic experiment, Cherkaoui reveals how deeply we still move within prescribed roles today—and what happens when someone dares to step out of line.
