Plovdiv - Culture House "Boris Hristov"
In 1996 concerts with Austrian music were initiated in Plovdiv on the initiative of Maria Tchervenlieva with the support of the Austrian Embassy. In the next year, concerts were also held in Sofia.
The interest of the audience grew continuously and after a few years, the ‘Days of Austrian Music’ were organized in several Bulgarian cities. Numerous famous soloists and conductors from Austria presented Austrian music together with Bulgarian orchestras and musicians – from classical to contemporary compositions. On many occasions, authors were present at the premiere of their works in Bulgaria.
Since 2006 the festival has been named ‘Austrian Music Weeks in Bulgaria’ and today it is the largest cultural project organized by the Austrian Embassy. In up to now 19 editions, more than 200 concerts took place in 15 Bulgarian cities: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Ruse, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Pazardzhik, Veliko Tarnovo, Blagoevgrad, Gabrovo, Shumen, Dobrich, Kyustendil, Pernik, Vidin.
