Mozart’s Vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio! stands among his most expressive concert arias for soprano and orchestra. Written chiefly for Aloysia Weber, the aria was inserted into Pasquale Anfossi’s opera Il curioso indiscreto at its Vienna performance at the Burgtheater on 30 June 1783.

The aria opens with a reflective, almost confessional section, where the soprano’s line unfolds in close musical dialogue with an oboe solo, portraying inner tension and yearning. The mood then shifts into a more animated and decisive Allegro, showcasing the singer’s virtuosity and conveying emotional resolve. The orchestral writing supports and colours the vocal line with clarity and finesse, as winds and strings enrich the dramatic flow.

Vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio! strikes a balance between intimate expression and operatic vigour, illustrating Mozart’s gift for shaping single-movement vocal scenes with both elegance and theatrical impact.
