“Parto, parto, ma tu, ben mio” is placed at a decisive dramatic moment. Sesto has been pushed by Vitellia toward an act he can barely endure, and at the same time he tries to secure her affection. Mozart shapes the aria as a tightly focused scena in which resolve, dependence, and moral anxiety are inseparably intertwined.

A defining feature is the intimate dialogue between the voice and the obbligato basset clarinet. The instrument does far more than accompany, it shadows and reflects Sesto’s changing states, echoing and anticipating the vocal line, and turning inner conflict into audible gesture. The result is unusual psychological clarity, almost as if two speakers are negotiating between pleading tenderness and rising agitation.

The structure moves from a relatively restrained opening toward increasing momentum and virtuoso intensity. The final surge feels less like display than like necessity, music that captures a character forcing himself into action while doubt remains close beneath the surface.
